Eight Iowa Counties are piloting this unique program to help meet
the needs of families raising a child with developmental disability.
The Program is designed to assist families in securing services and
supports they identity as necessary in helping their child to remain at
home. The assistance is intended to enable them to not funded through
other options. The family remains in control of decisions which affect
their child and family. This is a parent directed program with the
majority of the program advisory committee being parents. It is unique
in these ways:
- Parents decide what service or support they need.
- Parents decide who provides the support
- The application process is short, simple and quick (parents
helped to design the process)
- Assistance is provided to help locate additional resources, if
needed.
You may be eligible if you:
- Live in Story County
- Have a child with a developmental disability who is younger than
22 years
- Have a net taxable family income less than $60,000/year
What can CAH funds provide for my child?
- Respite or child care
- Equipment such as wheelchairs, strollers, glasses, or hearing aids
- Home modifications such as ramps, bathroom grab bars, or special
kitchen
- Medicine or Medical supplies.
- Travel expense to the doctor or hospital
- Special camps or recreation activities/equipment
- Counseling or training for you or your child.
